Avram Grant insists West Ham can turn things around and avoid Premier League relegation, despite looking favourites for the drop at this point in time.

The Hammers are two points behind Wolves and three points adrift of safety having played one game more than most of their Premier League relegation rivals due to the amount of matches snowed off at the weekend.

Only one team that have been rooted to the bottom of the Premier league at Christmas have managed to avoid the drop, and that was West Brom in 2005. But Grant, who is under real pressure to hold onto his job, insists he can make West Ham the second team to have achieved such a feat, even if the Premier League betting predictions indicate they are in real trouble.

It is true that the Baggies had fewer points than West Ham have at the same stage, but there is a lack of skill and confidence coming out of the Upton Park that means many fans are already prepared for the drop.
But their manager remains confident despite them failing to win away from home yet again at the weekend, they have not won on their travels all season, a fact people who bet on Premier League games will no doubt be aware of.

Speaking after the defeat at Blackburn, Grant said: “If it was two months to the end of the season with this difference of points, nobody would think we cannot do it. We can do it. As long as we show this spirit, I’m sure we can stay in the league.”

The vultures seem to be circling around Upton Park already and Champions League side Spurs have been linked with Scott Parker again. On several occasions so far this season Parker has been head and shoulders above any other West Ham player – so if they lose him there seem little chance they can avoid Premier League relegation.
