Despite having several key players out through injury, Rangers manager Walter Smith has pledged to attack against Manchester United at Ibrox.
The Gers disappointing 3-0 reverse against Valencia last time out means they have to win both their remaining Champions League group games in order to make it through to the knock out stages.
United themselves only need a point to progress and know they will be in for a game after they were held 0-0 by the SPL outfit back in September and the Champions League best odds reflect this.
Rangers have showed more attacking intent in their home games, but will hope they don’t live to regret a flurry of missed chances in their recent 1-1 draw with La Liga side Valencia.
They now lie two points behind the Spanish club in third spot and have to hope Turkish side Bursapor do them a favour in order to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Should Bursapor and Rangers win on Wednesday Walter Smith’s men will only need to better Valencia’s result in the final game to make in through. It seems an unlikely set of results and it would take a brave punter to place a Champions League bet on the Scottish side getting though.
Sasa Papac will be given a late fitness test as he attempts to recover from concussion but fellow defenders Madjid Bougherra and Andy Webster are definitely out, meaning Smith will have to reshuffle his pack if he wants to persist with the solid 4-5-1 formation he has used in Europe this season.
He will also have to do without midfielder Maurice Eduand and strikers James Beattie and Nikica Jelavic as his squad is stretched to the limit.
One thing is for certain though and that is the Ibrox crowd will be loud and boisterous. Games between English and Scottish clubs are always special occasions and this one is no different. United will have to be at their best if they are to emerge from this one with the point they need.
