Theo Walcott has admitted Mesut Ozil’s arrival at Arsenal is going to give the whole club a massive boost. With the pressure heaping on Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger, to spend some money before the end of the transfer window, the Frenchman shelled out a club record £42.4m in order to secure the services of Ozil from Real Madrid.
While there has been a wide feeling that the club needed to sign a striker before another midfielder, the arrival of Ozil has been received by overwhelming positivity among Arsenal fans and players.
Walcott admitted he felt the signing of the German international was a real signal of intent, highlighting the excitement in the squad over the arrival of such a talented player.
“He’s a great addition and personally I’m looking forward to playing alongside him. It’s very exciting. I played against him for England Under-21s, he showed his qualities then and he has showed them since,” said the England winger.
“We had a disappointing start to the season but we’ve bounced back and it’s looking fantastic now. The likes of Ozil joining the club is only going to boost everyone’s confidence and everyone’s going to be on a massive high.”
On the back of the 1-0 North London derby against Tottenham and the 5-0 aggregate victory over Fenerbahce to reach the Champions League group stage, the signing of Ozil has capped a productive couple of weeks for the Gunners.
While the football betting has not seen Arsenal’s odds for the Premier League title shorten too much in the wake of Ozil’s signing, those who bet on football could be forgiven for thinking that backing the Gunners this season might be a smart bit of business.
