Newcastle went
into last Saturday's game against Everton on
the back of three league defeats in a row.
So, one good thing we can actually take out
of the game was the fact that we didn't
lose, and since there is no fixture this
weekend, our unbeaten run will stretch until
at least March 17 when the Smoggies come to
St. James'. We beat them easily at the
Riverside; however, El Tel's rejects are
still floating around the relegation zone so
I'm sure they'll be up for it.
Last
weekend's game was probably a fair result
although the penalty did seem a bit harsh.
There was some good performances to report,
including Given, Caldwell and Lee. Gary
Speed and Carl Cort should be back for the
next game so there is still a chance that we
might put a bit of a run together before the
end of the season.
On a
different note, last Sunday afternoon I was
watching Fulham against Bolton for two
reasons. Lee Clarke and Robbie Elliott.
Lee Clarke
was the outstanding player on what looks
like a very promising Fulham team. There are
rumblings that he is on his way back to the
Toon at the end of the season. This would be
a great addition to the squad, especially as
our midfield has been very suspect this
year. Fulham, on the other hand, will be
quite a handful next season, and what's more
they're from London, hmmm.
As well as
that, rumours abound that Elliott is on a
free at the end of the season and is coming
back to the Toon. Robbie played in an
unfamiliar midfield role on Sunday, however
he was one of the few (very few) Bolton
players who showed any promise during the
match. If Bolton are promoted I predict an
easy six points for the Toon next season.
Transfer
rumours look set to dominate the rest of the
season and one that won't go away is the
Kieron Dyer move to Man U. They say Ferguson
always gets the players he wants, but
hopefully Dyer will take a leaf out of Alan
Shearer's book and have faith in the black
and white.
