A group of Man United fans, Manchester United Supporters Trust, are banding together in opposition to the club’s owners, the Glazer family. Good for them … except, I’m not too sure their tactics are going to work.
First up, they want Alex Ferguson to resign. “He claims to be a socialist”, says leader of the rebellion, Johnny Flacks. Yes, but so did Tony Blair and we all know how that worked out. Maybe I’m dense but I’m missing the connection between socialism and the financial mishandling of a football club. Unless, MUST are planning to nationalise Man U, install Tony Benn as manager and pay all the players minimum wage; a move I’m sure they’ll all stick around for!
The main problem with their plan though is their second tactic: buying a ticket for the match against AC Milan, but not taking their seats until the game has started. Call me pedantic, but I think they’re missing the point. If the Glazers are only there for the money, surely it would be better not to give them any in the first place. Just a thought.

The idea behind fergie resigning was floated at the meeting by one person and the press have ran with it. The main supporters groups have said this is a non starter, but the theory was that ‘socialist’ Fergie was a man of the people and would not allow the club to be ruined for the people.
The other point is valid but the fact that over 20,000 season ticket holder s have not re-newed at OT since the takeover speaks for itself. The stadium is still full, so clearly some people dont really care and would be happy to take those seats, so what effect would a full OT have on the TV? Nothing!
On the other hand what effect or what message would it send if there were hundreds of empty seats for the first 10/15 minutes then those supporters came into to the ground chanting anti-glazer chants, leaving people in doubt about their message?
The sponsors would not be happy, as would the TV people, if this happened on a regular basis!
Seriously, think about things before you write the first thing that comes into your head or at least do some research.
Who cares, down with United, down with United fans into the big black hole Leeds just climbed out of, only let life put a lid on it this time.
