Jamie's
mind isn't on football
The
episode opens with Andy leading a
warm-up routine on the training
field. He then proceeds to work
the keepers through their routine.
Jamie Parker's mind is elsewhere,
and Andy tells him to go and take
a rest. He's no good to the team
the way he is. Ray confronts Jamie
about his behaviour. He tells him
that he won't get back into the
first team until he produces the
goods in training.
The
club's at breaking point
Lynda
discovers that they can pay the
players this month. However, Roger
informs her that the club is still
"literally at breaking
point". Meanwhile, Prash
intercepts an engineer who has
discovered a stress fracture in
the North Stand. He recognises
this as an opportunity to deliver
the killer blow to Lynda. The
stand will have to be closed for
repairs, which will cost 150,000
pounds. He goes straight to the
press and tells them all about it.
Lynda hits the roof. However,
Roger tells her that if they can't
repair the stand immediately, it's
the end of the line.
Lynda
clutches at straws
Lynda has
a contretemps with publicist
Victoria Baptiste, who is helping
Prash get the story to the press.
Press photographers get it all on
film. Then Lynda talks to Roger
again about finding a consortium
to make a rescue bid to keep the
club out of Prash's hands. Roger
doesn't hold out much hope. He
tries and fails to find anyone
himself, and then suggests that
Lynda tries to get Monday to try
his Nigerian contacts. Monday,
though, tells her that he doesn't
think there's anything he can do.
When Lynda leaves work, she
witnesses North Stand season
ticket holders in the club
reception, demanding satisfaction.
Things get worse when Victoria
reveals to Prash that Lynda is
pregnant. Fletch confirms once
again with Prash that he will
become player-manager after Prash
takes over.
Prash
makes his move
Lynda
calls to Kitty and Ray's room to
tell Ray that she'll have to sell
the club. She later meets Prash
for dinner and tells him she'll
sell the club. Prash tells her
that he doesn't need to buy the
club becuase he's taken it into
administration. He taunts her that
she could have sold him the club
for millions, but now she'll be
left for nothing. The next day,
the administrator assures her that
he won't favour Prash.
Nevertheless, if a bid isn't made
in 24 hours, control of the club
will pass to Prash. Linda,
expecting the worst, bids a
tearful farewell to Roger and the
secretaries. She then sits in the
stand and pours her heart out to
ray.
Jamie's
fortunes deteriorate further
Tash
discovers the extent of the
financial predicament Jamie's
gambling has got them into. Jamie
meets her and promises her he'll
sort everything out. tash
indicates that she won't leave him
after all. She says that she'll
sort out their finances herself by
paying bookie McReady his 48,000
pounds out of her private savings
account. She takes Jamie's cards
so he can't withdraw any more
money for betting. Then Tash's
agent father Jeff turns up. He
sees the bruise Tash got at the
hands of the thugs, assemed Jamie
did it, and decks him.
It later
emerges that Jamie has secretly
kept some of the cash Tash tried
to take from him. He loses even
more money. As soon as she's gone,
he resumes his gambling over the
phone. Lizzie and Siobhan meet
Tash in the lobby of the Grange,
and invite her to go shopping with
them. When she declines, they are
so surprised that they conclude
she's having an affair. When Tash
arrives back in the hotel, she
hears the horse racing on in the
room before she goes in. Jamie
turns it off and pretends to be
asleep. She boots him out of the
room for the night. He has nowhere
else to go. He tries to console
himself by persuading Eddie to go
to the bookie's with him. A little
later, Eddie catches him trying to
steal some of his money. He tells
him to clear off. "Sort
yourself out, you mug!" he
cries.
Later,
Siobhan and Lizzie return from
shopping, and Tash tells them
about Jamie's gambling and the
fact that they are drunk.
Meanwhile, Jamie is looking for
somewhere to stay the night.
Fletch laughs off his request,
calling him a thief. Then Jamie
asks Lizzie if he can sleep on
their floor. She calls him a
wife-beater and a thief and sends
him on his way. He ends up
sleeping in the club dressing
rooms.
The
players are restless
Eddie
tells Matt that the players should
go on strike now that the club is
in administration to ensure that
they are fully paid. He tries to
stir up the other players, with
some success. Later on, Fletch
delivers a pro-Prash oration,
which is well received. matt
Conlon is having none of it, and
confronts Fletch about his
intentions. He rightly suspects
that Prash has got to Fletch.
Andy
Ansah's scene
Andy Ansah
delivers an in-depth tactical
analysis on the training field
ahead of the game against
Middlesboro. If they win the game,
they'll be third in the League
with a couple of matches to go.
Conclusion
The
episode ends with Jamie hitting
rock bottom and acknowledging to
Tash that he has a gambling
problem.
